Dr. Barrett Profile Picture

I graduated Summa Cum Laude from St. Mary’s College in Indiana with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Prior to starting graduate school, I spent a year volunteering as a victim advocate at a Wyoming domestic violence & sexual assault service center. I attended the University of Wyoming for graduate school where I obtained my Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in clinical psychology. Over the course of my graduate training in the Mountain West, I worked at a community mental health center, a private practice, a university clinic, and a telehealth clinic.  I completed my doctoral internship at the Cheyenne VA Medical Center where I worked in multiple clinics and various areas of the hospital.

After completing my degree and obtaining my license, I worked as an outpatient therapist at the Cheyenne VA for nearly two years. I have been a contractor for BetterHelp telehealth therapy services. I established my own telehealth practice in September 2021.

I live in Cheyenne, Wyoming with my husband and two kids. Having grown up in Cheyenne, I am glad to share my hometown with my children.

I have found an evidence-based eclectic approach to be the most successful way of addressing problems and working towards treatment goals. This approach provides flexibility that is still rooted in scientific research so that clients get the best of both worlds. I also emphasize teaching skills as a way to increase effectiveness outside of therapy sessions and long term success. Because therapy is based on learning new ways of handling challenges and living life, I ask clients to regularly practice skills and techniques between sessions. During sessions I try to balance discussion of recent events and challenges with overall treatment goals.

Over the years I have worked to create a balance between teaching people skills they can use for the rest of their lives and collaboratively being in the moment with clients as we explore their lived experience. It is very important to me that people feel heard and respected in addition to having their unique experience honored. Different things work for different people so it is important to establish a partnership with open communication. I can adjust to meet people’s needs and welcome feedback from clients. This is your journey and I am here to support you while hopefully making the process a little easier. I offer a free 20 minute initial consultations so we can have a chance to meet and figure out what works for you.

Although I have experience working with clients of various ages (from elementary school aged children up to people in their 90’s), my primary focus is working with adults. I have been a general practitioner with expertise in trauma recovery. Throughout the course of my training and career, I have helped people deal with a wide variety of problems that range from adjustment/life changes to life threatening psychopathology.

Based on my experience and therapy style, goal oriented people who are interested in learning skills to address coping deficits, manage anxiety issues, and heal from trauma tend to be great fits with my practice.
